Mail not sent to the GMAIL

I am installed the mail cow using docker. I am not given any domain name to it, it’s running under localhost:80. I have created the sample domain inside the mailcow server and created the two users. I can send the emails from one user to another user under the domain. But I can’t send the emails to any GMAIL user.
Is the domain name required for sending the emails to GMAIL??
Please clarify for me.

Yes, more specifically, you need a reverse pointer (RDNS) that resolves your public IP to the FQDN of the server. So if you used something like mail.domain.local on the Mailcow server, GMAIL won’t accept your mail because it will never be able to resolve your IP to mail.domain.local.
The other thing that could block you, depending where your server is installed, is a blocking of outbound SMTP port 25 which is common by most residential ISP’s, as well as some cloud service providers. For cloud providers you can open a support ticket to have the port opened.

Hello Guys!
I installed the mailcow using docker. I have given the fully qualified domain name. I can able to send the emails from my domain to any other domain like GMAIL. But I cant receive the mail from GMAIL to my domain. The error was relay access denied. I have customized the mailcow ports like below

SMTPS_PORT=456
SUBMISSION_PORT=578
IMAP_PORT=134
IMAPS_PORT=983
POP_PORT=120
POPS_PORT=985
SIEVE_PORT=4190
DOVEADM_PORT=127.0.0.1:19991

SOLR_PORT=127.0.0.1:18983
REDIS_PORT=127.0.0.1:7654

Is this lead to relay access denied error ??
Can we change the SMTP port ??
Please help with this..

arunodhayam No, you can’t/shouldn’t change the SMTP port. How would people sending you email know to use a different port? They wouldn’t.
You probably have a non-mailcow SMTP listening on port 25, and that is what is rejecting with the relaying denied message. Un-install the hosts SMTP daemon (postfix, sendmail, whatever) and use mailcow on 25. This is of course assuming you do have your Mailcow config done properly.

Hi,
Now I am not changing the SMTP default port and it’s running under port 25. I have given the fully-qualified domain name that mailcow.mydomain.com
I have also mapped the MX and txt value into the domain provider that like below
record = MX, host = @, points to = mailcow.mydomain.com
record = txt, host = @, txt value = v=spf1 mx _all.
Here I am not using the default mailcow docker Nginx. I am separately installed the Nginx and wrote the config file for my domain. Also not add the ssl for my domain.
still, I can’t receive any emails from GMAIL and others. But I can able to send it.

These are the errors.
Please fix my issue.

Does the Mailcow Postfix logs show the connection coming in from 171926077.pamx1.hotmail.com? That may give you a better idea of what is happening at the Mailcow level.
So far you are relying on the bounce from Hotmail to tell you what is happening, this doesn’t give you any idea what Mailcow is doing.

There’s a second MX-Record in your DNS-Records pointing to 171926077.pamx1.hotmail.com
As you can see in your screenshot it’s the hotmail mailserver that’s refusing to accept the mail, not your mailcow.

Hi heavygale and @tbrummell, I am facing the same issue. Can send emails properly but cannot receive them from Gmail. Some Relay access denied error is showing in Gmail. This is how my DNS records look like in Cloudflare.

Can you please help?

azakero MX records define what server mail should be sent to for the given domain, you’ll probably only want to list your mailcow there.

“relay access denied” sounds like your mailcow doesn’t believe to be responsible for the domain you are mailing to,.. did you add the domain to your mailcow and configure a mailbox?

heavygale Yes. I did. I added one mailbox yesterday. Then it was working fine. I could send mail from Gmail. But today it isn’t working. I also added a new mailbox a while back. That is also not working

Hey heavygale and @tbrummell , it is working now. I removed the extra MX records. Thanks to both of you. But can you please take a look at this other issue which I posted but got no answer? Should I remove all the other ones? Please note that I didn’t add them. And what is mailcow’s mx record if you dont mind sharing?
