App passwords not working

Hi all. i have come across an issue with my mailcow setup and installing email accounts onto macos & ios.

i have created a new account; test@domain.com. i have then logged into this account and can see the Apple connection profile or Apple connection profile with app password options. i click the with app password option, then i install the profile on my macbook, however after a short buffer it tells me it fails to authenticate the username or password? attached is the error message i get when trying to install the profile.

i must note that when using the profile connection method WITHOUT a password, where it requires me to input the password, works just fine.

Did you set an app password for this account in the first place?

no, but ive never had to do this, usually it would create a brand new one when downloading the profile.

Mailcow documentation does not say anything about doing this before hand, it simply says download from URL then install the profile to your device.

spokelse Ah okay, never used that before. I always created the app password myself and used it in Outlook etc

If you use the function for Apple profile, the app password gets automatically created. No need to manually create it.
But to rule out that function as a source of error @spokelse should manually configure the mail and calendar accounts on his device with a manually created app password.

how does it work that way? you click create app password in the respective tab, then just download the profile? does it automatically attach the app password to the profile you download?

Well, thanks to autoconfig and autodiscover even Apple devices automatically find the corresponding mail server for an email address. So all you have to do is enter the password, which I create manually as app password as I wrote above.

But as I said, I wasn’t aware of the app profile download option as I’m an Android user 😅

we have done this as a work around, by just inputting the password manually. i suppose i just wanted to bug report/look for support in the sense that the profile method with password is not working as intended.
