hello, as you can see by the log above im having trouble sending emails to hotmail/outlook, do you perhaps know why and could lend me an helping hand?

Is your server IPv6 only?

Have you set PTR and SPF records?

If you can answer the above questions with yes and it still doesn’t work, it may as well not work at all…!?

I did a bit of googling and found that Microsoft apparently first introduced IPv6 for their cloud services in October 2022. Since then, it has been gradually extended, but I couldn’t find a clear statement saying that IPv6 would work for their email services worldwide as of now. So availability may still vary depending on the region you are in.

By the way, I can’t find any AAAA records where I am either. So again, I’m not sure if this is supposed to work at all.

i have a spf record, but my hosting provider currently has an issue with ipv6 ptr (they’re looking into it should be fixed soon)
and my host is not ipv6 only. do you know if the issue could be caused by the ipv6 ptr record not currently working?

No, it doesn’t look like it, but it will definitely cause issues with deliverability in general if no PTR record is in place. Also, a PTR and SPF record is mandatory to send email over IPv6 to recipients who host their own domain on M365. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security/mail-flow-about?view=o365-worldwide#support-for-anonymous-inbound-email-over-ipv6

However, based on the DNS lookups I posted in my previous post and the error messages you posted, it looks like MS has either rolled back IPv6 for hotmail.com and outlook.com, or maybe it was never really available for those domains in the first place.

Or in other words: Your server is trying to connect to hotmail-com.olc.protection.outlook.com via IPv6, but it fails because there are no DNS records for IPv6 in place, probably because MS still does not support IPv6 for all its services, even though it is 2024.

Seems like a problem with DNS resolution. Have you tried dig from inside the postfix container?

sorry i don’t really get what you mean
but if you’re asking if the receiver mail is correct, yes it is, ima unable to send emails to microsoft (outlook and hotmail)
