  • Mailcow and Keycloak

Hey, everybody.
Is anyone running a working instance of the nightly version in production? I’m interested in connecting keycloak and mailcow. Is it stable enough for production use? Alternatively when will authentication via IdP be in a stable release?
Thanks

Hi.
Not in prod but in test environment.
The only thing which prevents me from using it also in prod is, that there seems to be no know-how (in the community).
Most of the questions here get no answers and the documentation of “mailcow SSO / keycloak” is also not in good shape.
If this is changing and I can assume that I get help if I absolutely need it, I’m going to use it also in prod.

Best regards, Oh-Bee

Thank god! So many hours I sit in front of my screen, thinking what I should do with all the money, I usually spend for my familily e-mail server for two adults and three children …
And then … dead on time for christmas: a light in the dark.
Thank god … thank mlcuser! I would be lost without you.

Where do you get your knowledge from, that I couldn’t wait?
What is your problem? I asked one question regarding keycloak with many views and not a single reply.
I have shared this insight here. Nothing more.

The most annoying thing about the open source world are the people who, instead of helping others, try to explain that they are the only ones who deserve the benefits of open source.

Oh-Bee Oh wow. I wish I had the knowledge to help you. Unfortunately I haven’t. I am so sorry. I need to work on myself to be able to help you and offer you an SLA, for free of course. But I can’t unless it is officially released and documented.
Shame on me. Shame on the community.
      Happy Christmas!

You have my pity. In many ways.

        Thanks. Happy Christmas!

[unknown] Where do you get your knowledge from, that I couldn’t wait?

And BTW, you are writing this, and then complaining that noone in community is helping you. Why?
        Obviously noone could (me included).

Oh-Bee My response was mainly directed to the last sentence in your post, which seems a bit demanding, and I bet you are using Exchange or some other proprietary or commercial product or service, and now you want to switch to Mailcow, not because it’s “free”, but because it’s “gratis”.

The latter is simply a misunderstanding. FOSS is not “gratis”, you pay with your time or often with a support contract if you need reliable SLAs.

Mailcow is open source, which doesn’t mean that the project or the community around it owes you anything. A repo where they make the code available would be more than enough to comply with any of the FOSS software licences they use. Anything beyond that, like documentation or support forums, is done on a voluntary basis, and you have zero, none, nada claim to it.

Of course you know this, and that’s why you casually mention that you won’t use it if you don’t get reliable free support for it.

But guess what!? We couldn’t care less. The project and the community have nothing to gain from you using it. In fact, the opposite is true for users who just demand things and don’t contribute anything.

As I wrote, I use mailcow for my family: five persons. But no one of you seems to read my posts till the end. You’re just looking for sentences to get upset about.
I’ve installed my first Linux system from Floppy disks in the early 90th and contributed a lot in the last 30 years.
So just stop assuming, believing, thinking, putting your opinion out into the world. The only reason for you to put on such a show here is to make yourselves feel better.
I never complained about this software. I never wrote, that I do not use it, if I do not get reliable free support. I use mailcow since years and pay (mostly) every year for a SAL. For five persons I could also use closed source software like Axigen. But I use this software because I stand behind it and the idea.
But maybe I’ll go back and install postfixadmin and every single component myself, like I did 20 years ago. Then I’ll avoid your self-congratulation.

Well then I must have simply misunderstood you here:

Oh-Bee Most of the questions here get no answers and the documentation of “mailcow SSO / keycloak” is also not in good shape.
If this is changing and I can assume that I get help if I absolutely need it, I’m going to use it also in prod.

Btw, I don’t think that’s ever going to change, because there are simply far less people hosting their own mail server than, for example, a Nextcloud server or other poular self-hosted alternatives to commercial services.

        No one is typing
