Hi everyone

I’ll be honest, I’ve always had my email setup for me but it’s time to do my own and I came across Mailcow which seems awesome.

I’ve installed it and I’m now setting up the DNS records but I’m confused.

I’ve always thought these went in the DNS section using your domain provider but I don’t have the PRT or TLSA options. My SRV record also isn’t working and neither is my DMARC (I’ve not looked at this one yet) but other than that I have all green ticks.

I’ve been googling this and I’ve ready that the isn’t setup with your domain provider and with your isp, is this true?

My domain is with 123-reg, my hosting is with Hetzner and my isp is with multiple accounts as I work from home and work.

I’m unsure how to proceed?

Thanks

Read the references part and follow the links to understand how DNS works.

    This is not needed/required.
You know that propagation of DNS records can take hours if not days?

All of that DNS records are to be done with your domain registrar, except for the reverse DNS entry, that your ISP has to do.

Thanks. I have OCD when it comes to things like this, I need all green ticks otherwise I can’t move on.

I’ve been going through that page again and again and again. Maybe I need a break and come back to it later.

From what I can work out, I need to add the PTR part to Hetzner and not at the domain provider?

I’ve added the Reverse DNS mail.mydomain.co.uk for ipv4.

I’ve then added ::1 in the address box and mail.mydomain.co.uk in the Reverse DNS box for ipv6 as per the instructions in the text below. I’m not sure if I should have a green tick of that section but the current state now has some text in it that matches the name for the ptr record. Is that now correct?

I found this page: community.hetzner.com Icon Set up your own mail server with Mailcow

    and read this section…

Step 6 - Set up the reverse DNS entries

To set up your reverse DNS entries, do the following steps:

Go to the Hetzner Cloud console and click on your project
Select the server you just created and go to the NETWORKING tab
Click the three dots near your IPv4 address, select Edit Reverse DNS, enter your domain (mail.example.com), and confirm the change.
Click the three dots near your IPv6 subnet, select Edit Reverse DNS, and type ::1 into the field where the IP is below your domain name (mail.example.com).

@Justifier1102 that’s OK, I looks like this afterwards:

      No one is typing
