What is the point of Solr and can I disable it?

Is Solr crucial to mailcow running as it should? I have it on a VPS with a 2Gb Ram and Solr status is displayed as

Solr is starting, disabled or died.

Do I need Solr at all? Can I safely disable it? Thanks

I disabled clamav and solr in mailcow.conf as described, ran a docker-compose down / up -d, but it still seems to start both. What am I doing wrong? How does the info get from mailcow.conf to docker-compose.yml? I don’t see that mentioned in the documentation.

rcd How does the info get from mailcow.conf to docker-compose.yml?

Since mailcow.conf is the .env file for docker-compose.yml its will set the enviroment variable.
