Custom Theme Settings Gone After Update

I just did an update to the latest mailcow version. Not for the first time, but this time my nice theme settings are gone after the update (and the quite ugly standard SOGo theme and colors are back).

I tried to reinstall my settings (which as you’ll know is quite some rocket science), but the custom theme files (including custom colors, background image, etc.) are still there!

They just don’t apply for some reason (neither after deleting caches, restarting SOGo and memcache, etc.).

Any idea what could be the problem (and why this happened only with the latest update)?

Hi, how are you mounting your custom theme to the container? Did you append it in the docker compose or did you use a docker-compose-override.yml for example as indicated here? https://docs.mailcow.email/manual-guides/SOGo/u_e-sogo/#apply-custom-sogo-theme

Yes, I think that was one of the instructions I was following when I managed to setup my custom theme!

I had changed:

/opt/mailcow-dockerized/data/conf/sogo/custom-theme.js
/opt/mailcow-dockerized/data/conf/sogo/custom-theme.css
docker-compose.override.yml
/opt/mailcow-dockerized/data/conf/sogo/custom-favicon.ico

At least the custom favicon is still there 🙂

Are you sure? It looks completely the same (badly), the same annoying erros that are debated in forums are still there (like old mail tags that stay in the filter even though not used anymore), and I just checked the css names and they also seem the same.

Also one place I added a background image is the body-tag, and this should be given even in a new program version.

What about /opt/mailcow-dockerized/data/conf/sogo/sogo.conf ?
Not exactly sure if this file would be overridden by the update but there’s a probable chance.

Yes, it is.

I also tried to change one single button back to my prior color (to test if changed css selectors are the problem), but nothing happened.

Thanks! As you had said that SOGo has been rebuilt from scratch, I had thought that the program was done completely new. But according to your informative link only the source of SOGo was changed.

So changing the source doesn’t mean that SOGo’s design and css is changed, but it’s maybe more than a coincidence that suddenly after this source change the custom theme is broke.

Is it possible that this source change requires us to integrate custom theme settings in a new manner?

Hmm tried to look into the commits to see if there was any breaking change or an altered configuration but had no luck finding something relevant. Might check out tomorrow to see how it’s behaving for me since I was planning to update my server soon.
In the meantime I believe we might need feedback from a project contributor for this one if there was an actual change or if this could be a bug.

I followed the official custom theme guide again:

This brought back the colors set by the js-file, but not the more important settings via the css-file (even though it’s still there).

So I wrote a bug report now, hoping that the developers will check it (even though I didn’t fill out 100% of the tons of data requested):
