Hello,
I’ve been meaning to ask you this question for a while now.
Users on my domain who want to read their emails in the Apple Mail app need to go to ‘Settings’, where they’re asked to install the server profile…
Everything works, but several times a day, Apple asks us to enter the password again…
Why?
How can this be resolved?

Are you using App Passwords? If not I would recommend doing so.

Unfortunately, even when I set an app password, I still have the same problem. Does anyone else have the same issue with iPhone ?

I don’t need a “server profile”? What is it specifically and is it something you set up yourself for your mailcow installation?

That’s cool. I didn’t know about that feature.

I don’t think it’s working though. I tested on my server with an account I rarely use and after getting the profile there is no app password configured for the email account. There are also no passwords in the mobileconfig file that was downloaded.

I haven’t done any further investigation so I could be woefully uninformed on how this is supposed to work, but based on the short blurb in the documentation I would have expected to see at least an app password configured in the user account and for that password to be in the mobileconfig file somewhere.

Kevo I see there’s a warning at the top of that documentation esackbauer shared that seems to be about your issue. Were you able to get it working?

I am contemplating a move to mailcow and rely heavily on apple apps for email, calendaring and contacts, so am an interested observer. ;-)

There have been several independent reports of unintended configuration changes causing emails to no longer be sent or received on Apple devices. The root cause appears to be the device automatically enabling the “Automatically manage connection settings” option. This setting incorrectly changes the SMTP port from 587 to 25 and disables password authentication.

If you suddenly can’t send or receive emails on your Apple device, please check these settings first.

I just tested the profile feature out of curiosity. I don’t use it in practice and I haven’t gone back to look into it any further.

I also use Apple Mail on multiple devices.
I set up my email profile manually.
Enter the server data, email address and my standard password.

The problem with re-entering the password does not exist here.

I’ve never worked with server profiles before.

Of course, I have to enter the password once on all devices if I have changed my user access password.
