Add raw email files from backup to user account

One of my users accidentally deleted their entire Inbox.

I was able to restore all raw email files from a backup (encrypted).

I have manually copied those files into the user’s Maildir/cur folder, fixed permissions/ownership, restarted mailcow, and ran doveadm force-resync -u $USER INBOX.

The mailcow GUI is not updating the email count, so I am assuming I did something wrong.

Would anybody happen to know if there’s anything solvable here, or if the emails are gone? I am in the process of trying to manually decrypt the files, but so far have been unsuccessful.

After executing doveadm quota recalc -u $USER, the Mailcow GUI at least shows the correct stats! Somehow missed that line in the documentation.

I will check in with my user if they can access their emails again 🙂

So that didn’t work, and I am getting a ‘could not sort contents of URL: imap:’ error in SoGo :/

Thunderbird shows ‘downloading header of xxx emails’, so somehow sees the correct count, but does not actually download anything.

Anybody have any idea of how to repair the user’s mailbox?

Fixed with chmod +x on Maildir/cur!
