GMail App on Android refresh loop and notification spam.

There is a similar thread, but in German.
Since yesterday in Gmail App on android, accounts added as “Exchange and Office 365” are now in refresh loop, pushing notifications repeatedly, unable to perform actions on emails.
At least, marking as read or moving email between folders doesn’t work, probably more than that.

Accounts added as IMAP don’t have this problem.

Any tips how to resolve this will be appreciated.

…same for me. Not sure, if it came after the latest upgrade of mailcow or if it was an android/gmail upgrade.

It seems like the gmail upgrade is the problem. My other ActiveSync clients (Outlook 2021) still work.
Try using a different email app like Thunderbird, FairEmail, Bluemail or eM Client.

Same here, started on wife’s phone on the weekend, and now mine is doing it today. Goddamn annoying, makes the app utterly useless.

Same here starting today. Upgrading to the lastest Gmail beta App does not help. Gmail is in an refresh loop and I can’t send any mail.

Same issue here… I got gmail working again by uninstalling ALL updates to the app on my phone. I also turned off auto update. Will try installing again when I see the update Last Updated date move past Nov 10, 2025.

I am also getting reports of problems syncing contacts for Exchange accounts. I use DAVx5 for contacts and have not had this problem. The issue does seem to be at Google’s end.
