How to rename default folders for localization or national language? I use outlook by IMAP

Outlook is garbage, stop using this overprice piece of shi…software.

You can try set-up “Root folder”, sometime it works sometimes it does not, somewhere here File>Account settings>Account Settings>choose your account> Root folder path.

Outlook is designed to use proprietary Exchange and forcing users to monthly subscriptions, other than that they do not care,..

While I generally agree and would say that Outlook was never a particularly good IMAP client, I’m not sure how that’s relevant here.

I mean, while localization seems to work mostly fine on the open source clients I’m using (except in Roundcube, apparently), the terms differ so much between clients, with some even mixing in a bit of “Denglish”, that, honestly, who cares at this point…? 😉

The only standard folder that seems to be consistent over all those clients seems to be the “Papierkorb”, except for Roundcube, where it’s called “Trash”, probably becuase of the missing localisation mentioned above. Not even “Posteingang” is consistent, not even in both of the Gnome apps. It’s called “Eingang” in Evolution" and “Posteingang” in "Geary.

Oh, and by the way, ‘Archive’ is ‘Archive’ in Thunderbird and Evolution, even though localisation is working for other folders. So there’s absolutely no consistency, even between open-source clients. 😉

Well I would not be that mad at Outlook, if this only mean that folder has different name. People get used to few foreign name quickly. But Outlook is much more fun. When it made this mess, it creating own folders. This ultimately means, when one mark message as junk in Outlook, message is moved into this folder and this mean you are not teaching Rspamd, so happy spamming,…

Sure open-source have own flaws but I usually do not pay, in case of Outlook I do and I can’t blame people that they want it to work if they pay, for us as admins/support it’s helpless situation,..

Yeah, as I said, I’m not a big fan of Outlook either. However, that’s not because I think Microsoft products are generally bad from a technical standpoint. Exchange and Outlook is probably still one of the most well-integrated email and groupware solution available. However, I avoid them because they’re proprietary and because of all the shenanigans that Microsoft pulls.

So I deliberately give up ‘better’ features on principle. The same goes for Google Workspace. Trying to replicate that with OSS is difficult. I mean, there’s Nextcloud, and yes, I use it, but if we’re being honest, it doesn’t even come close to Google Workspace. Is it good enough? Yes. Is Google better,? Also, yes.

By the way, today I had a similar experience in Evolution in combination with Mailcow. I renamed a folder in Evolution, and it disappeared in all the other clients, including Roundcube, until I manually enabled it again in Roundcube, which made it reappear in the other clients as well.
