There are some older posts on the subject but this now seems officially supported since 2024-11 which I’m running. See updated guide here: https://docs.mailcow.email/manual-guides/Dovecot/u_e-dovecot-lazy_expunge/#introduction .
Does anybody got this to work as described? I followed the documentation to add the extra.conf in dovecot and after restarting the container that get’s applied to the dovecot container in /etc/dovecot/extra.conf . However, it doesn’t seem to have any effect at all.
Once the trash is emptied, a new folder named .EXPUNGED should appear. This folder will contain emails that, according to the rules defined in step 1, will be automatically deleted from the server after a certain period.
I can’t see that happening though. Is that folder supposed to be displayed in the user’s folder tree? Didn’t see anything like it neither in SOGo webmail nor with an IMAP client (Thunderbird). Can’t seem any info in the logs neither to that effect. Seems a very useful feature. Any feedback appreciated.
