Logs: "warning: not owned by root"

Checked my logs (postfix, since it was first in the list) after running the update.sh (great job by the way… was SO nervous; ran like a champ).

Saw this in the logs (okay, wasn’t able to upload an image)

Do I need to be concerned about this? If so, is there a fix?

Are you running mailcow as non-root?

Not sure. It’s the mailcow-dockerized. It was pointed out to me a while back that I should do all mailcow-related work as root, but I’m not sure my initial install was done that way. However, my update process just now was done under root.

Please don’t tell me I have to reinstall. It was a lot of work getting all my domains set up.

Check if umask is 022:

Check if all your files and directories under /opt/mailcow-dockerized/data/ are owned by root.

Okay, I went in and changed the ownership of the mailcow-dockerized an all below it to root using:

chown -R root mailcow-dockerized
# Confirmed root ownership with ls-l
cd mailcow-dockerized
# Confirmed these files with ls -l
docker compose down
docker compose up -d

I checked the postfix logs, and there were no warnings near the starting the Postfix mail system entry like there was before.

DerLinkman Oh, definitely. That’s the first thing I did. Unsure, of course, HOW much of a backup I’m getting. I feel like creating a .tar.gz of the ENTIRE folder (as opposed to running the backup script) would give me a faster restore option, but then I haven’t actually looked at the individual files in the backup directory.
