I am requesting a feature that I believe would greatly enhance the usability of our calendar system. Having migrated from Google Apps for Business, I have found a particular feature missing that was highly beneficial in our previous setup: the ability to create calendar events from the perspective of a resource.
Feature Description:
In Google Apps for Business, it is possible to create a calendar event where the resource itself is the organizer of the event. This functionality is extremely useful in various scenarios. Here are a couple of examples:
Fleet Management:
- We manage our fleet as a resource. When a vehicle has a service appointment, the resource (vehicle) can be set as the organizer of the event. This way, the person scheduling the appointment is not listed as the organizer. Individuals who are responsible for the service can then accept the invitation.
Executive Management Meetings:
- The executive management team often needs to schedule meetings. Currently, I, as a manager or department head, have to send out the invitations. However, if I cannot personally attend the meeting, it feels inappropriate for me to be the organizer. If the executive management could be set up as a group resource that invites participants to the meeting, this issue would be resolved.
Although these might seem like edge cases, the underlying concept is quite logical and can be widely applicable.
Current Limitation:
As it stands, I have not found a way to create an event from the perspective of a resource. I can only invite a resource to an event (e.g., booking a room, scheduling a vehicle for business travel). There is no option for the resource to invite me (e.g., celebrations, important general meetings).
Current Workaround:
The current workaround involves creating a separate mailbox for each resource and monitoring these mailboxes, which is cumbersome and not ideal.
Implementing this feature would streamline the process significantly and enhance the functionality of the calendar system for users who manage multiple resources.
