I’m aware of the helper-scripts for backup. But to keep the amount of disk space used on the mailcow host, I’d like to rsync the vmail folders.
I also understand that the emails/files themselves are crypted and compressed - so without removing compression and encryption, they’re not usable apart from the MC install.
But expanding/decrypting them seems entirely do-able, should the need really arise.
If I’m simply restoring to the MC install, would an rsync to/from a remote system work ok?
Is there any reason simply rsync-ing the vmail files won’t work for backup and restore of individual mailboxes?
Are mails crypted in a way that is unique to each user, or would it be possible to restore mails to a different user, if needed? [Lets say Fred got fired and nuked his mailbox/messages. I want to restore Fred’s “inbox” to George (his boss) into a different folder. Can I simply create the folder for George and then copy the messages into that folder?
TIA
