Some time ago, I successfully set up a mailcow server with reverse proxy and Nextcloud on a Hetzner vServer. I don’t remember why it had to be reverse proxy and why I wanted Nextcloud (never used it, really). I just remember, that I didn’t want Sogo and that the whole set up was majorly difficult, meaning: I never wanted to touch the setup again (server-side, not the GUI).
I also was able to import the mail accounts from another hoster and everything worked fine for some months. For reference: I used Thunderbird as client on PC and Spark as mail client on Android. After some months (IIRC about 3), first Thunderbird was throwing an error about a wrong certificate, which I saved as “safe” (which seemed to solve the issue). Then Spark didn’t allow me to send mails anymore, probably same issue (it didn’t specify).
Now until then I could have been fine, but I made a HUGE mistake: I backed up with the backup script and tried to update and fix and/or simplify my setup. Shouldn’t have done that. In the process of trying to set it up properly again, I started from zero, resetting my server. Yes, I really shouldn’t have done that.
I still have 3 backups from different times, so I should be able to restore at least the mails.
But I feel I am doing something wrong, since the seemingly simple setup (from scratch) with subsequent restore of a) the mail accounts (manually) and b) the mails (backup_vmail.tar.gz) didn’t lead to having all the previous mails back.
Furthermore I am still getting the same error with Spark, although I am slowing suspecting that it might be a Spark-specific issue…
If anybody is feeling like wanting to help me, I would much appreciate any help and can provide any information you might need and follow any instructions, that might be necessary.
Kind regards
Falkgeist
P.S.: Please excuse me, if I didn’t piggyback on any other thread, but I didn’t find my specific issue anywhere.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot something important: When I import the mail backup, the mails somehow show up in SoGo, but I can’t see the title, the subject nor the content, nothing, just a white/grey circle and some white/grey lines. When clicking on the mail, nothing happens, but I see the count on the inbox. Furthermore, the mails do not show up in IMAP-connected clients (e.g. Thunderbird).
