  • Attention: Login via Twitter has been disabled!

Hi all,

unfortunately I had to disable the possibility to login via Twitter with immediate effect.

Without any prior notice, I have received following email just minutes before posting this:

So for an yet undisclosed reason the Twitter App - allowing for this feature to work - has been suspended by Twitter:

Therefore, I had no choice than disabling this feature now.

Impact
There are (luckily) very few users affected from this issue (19 users, to be exact), as most tend using other providers. A different login method needs to be used going forward.

What if I’m affected?
If you are affected, there are following situations:

  1. If you have configured multiple login providers (e.g. GitHub), please use the respective login provider as your alternative.
  2. If you do not have other login providers, please reset your password. This will allow you to get access to your account via username and password. Afterwards you can configure a alternative login provider.

If you encounter any issues logging into your account, please let us know (preferably) in the Telegram Icon Telegram channel

or directly send me an email at patrik+mailcow[at]kernstock[dot]net.

What next?
I have applied for an appeal for the suspension, but I don’t hold up my hopes too much. Even when the app is surprisingly enabled again, I most likely won’t re-enable the login provider. The unreliability is not worth the inconvenience and hassle caused for our forum team and users.

Quick update: Based on developer.twitter.com the Twitter app looks like being re-enabled again. I have not received any (automated) email of the re-activation nor any reasoning for the suspension in the first place.

But, for now, I will leave the possibility to login via Twitter disabled as announced previously.

Today morning another email arrived - yet again it was suspended:

So it will stay disabled.
