Advice on migrating external, existing mail to new mailcow setup

Hello all,

I have been running my mail on Postfix+Dovecot+MySQL for a few years inside of a VM. I was thinking of trying to containerize it, but then found out about mailcow.

My question is how can I migrate my existing mail (1 domain, about 7 mailboxes) to mailcow? Do I install mailcow, create the same users under the same domain and then simply copy the existing mail to the vmail-vol-1 persistent storage?

On the documentation page under migration I see instructions only for migrating from existing mailcow to a new mailcow setup. What is the proper way of achieving this?
