Compliance and record keeping strategy

Here’s a problem, say I need to keep all email messages (incoming and outgoing) for a period of 5 years for compliance.

Is there a way to completely prevent email deletion, or is there an easy way to setup a read-only copy that will gather and keep the messages forever?

I think the easiest and best workaround is disabling the delete command in dovecot

I just found a lazy expunge plugin for dovecot that moves messages to a hidden mailbox

For compliance-reasons you should more think about using software which is designed doing that - for example the open-source project http://www.mailpiler.org.

I’m not sure if it makes sense integrating something like that into mailcow as most user probably doesn’t have the requirement to do so. And for commercial-use it might be more appropriate using dedicated software for independent archiving, in my opinion.
